Leading Contact Lens Manufacturer Manages Product Quality and Compliance Management Worldwide with PLM

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Agile Software Corporation (NASDAQ:AGIL), a leading provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) solutions, today announced that CooperVision, one of the world's leading and fastest-growing manufacturers of contact lenses, has implemented Agile Product Quality Management (PQM) as its global quality solution.  Through the company's recent acquisition of Ocular Sciences, CooperVision doubled in size and required a robust and scalable solution capable of supporting its quality management and regulatory compliance requirements worldwide.  After a thorough evaluation of the PLM market, CooperVision selected Agile because of its deep life sciences industry expertise, best practice solutions and unmatched product offering.

"The Agile solution has not only addressed our immediate quality and compliance needs, but has provided us with a roadmap for the future," said Christine Moench, vice president regulatory affairs and quality assurance, CooperVision.  "Agile has become a trusted advisor in helping us innovate, meet our high quality standards more efficiently and achieve critical time-to-market goals."

A rapidly growing company, CooperVision has become the third largest contact lens maker in the world with a network of facilities in 12 countries across five continents.  Prior to implementing Agile, CooperVision relied on a variety of paper-based control systems and electronic systems that were limited to local sites, but did not provide the company with enterprise-wide visibility or a global repository of product information.  Following the company's acquisition and subsequent increase in size, CooperVision realized a need to automate its quality and compliance processes and create an electronic repository that is updated in real-time and accessible across the enterprise. The Agile Product Quality Management solution features document management, product record control, and corrective and preventive actions
(CAPA) management, which enables CooperVision to meet strict, international compliance requirements pertaining to product quality, safety and efficacy across its diverse portfolio.

"Our global quality team unanimously chose Agile," said Bryan Horrocks, manager, global quality systems, CooperVision.  "It was the easiest and most flexible solution we evaluated.  We looked at other solutions that could handle specific quality events, but they couldn't complete the closed-loop CAPA management requirements like Agile."

Agile Product Quality Management, part of the Agile 9.2 solution suite, includes advanced analytics capabilities to drive improved product quality and customer satisfaction by tightly integrating customer, product, quality and regulatory information within a closed-loop corrective action system.
Agile Product Quality Management enables medical device companies to fulfill customer demands for higher quality, faster response and compliance with regulatory requirements.  From R&D, prototype development and clinical trials, through regulatory approval, new product introduction, market acceptance, and end-of-life, Agile 9.2 is a complete PLM solution suite that guides product development efforts to virtually ensure compliance quality.

"A compliant data set is mission-critical for success in the medical device industry," said Jay Fulcher, Agile CEO and president.  "Companies such as CooperVision are quickly recognizing the essential role of PLM for automating the compliance process and managing data, while improving product quality and customer satisfaction.  We are pleased that CooperVision selected Agile to assist them as they execute on their PLM vision."
