Servoy is the only hybrid development platform for the “Open Source” era Thousand Oaks, CA (May 7, 2010) - Servoy today announced the open source version of its award-winning hybrid SaaS platform, Servoy 5.2 – the platform that simplifies SaaS. Servoy 5.2 combines the best of both worlds, allowing “SaaS and Back” hybrid applications -- which can be deployed using cloud computing and on-premises through both a browser and a native client – all from a single code base. In Servoy 5.2, the source code of Servoy Developer, the Servoy Smart Client and Servoy Web Client will become open source under the Affero General Public License (AGPL). Servoy chose the AGPL as the license for this release because of its simplicity and openness. The AGPL license is approved by the Open Source Initiative, making it widely accepted with both corporations, governments and educational institutions. “With this open source release of the Servoy Developer and Servoy Client libraries, Servoy hopes to spark contributions from talented developers worldwide and reaffirms its longstanding commitment to the open source community,” said Jan Aleman, CEO, Servoy. “We strongly believe the future of software is open - and not only open as in open standards - but also open, as in open source. Open source reduces vendor lock-in and increases the capabilities of both the developer and the platform. “In the past, Servoy has contributed to the Open Source community as a significant player in key Java projects, including Apache Wicket, Eclipse DLTK and others,” Aleman said. “We are taking this to the next level by open sourcing our Servoy Developer and Client code.” Servoy expects to release the open source version as early as next month, after which the source code can be downloaded from the Servoy website. The open sourcing of Servoy benefits the worldwide Servoy community:
