| ANDOVER, MA -- March 13, 2007 -- Omnify Software, a leading provider of
product lifecycle management (PLM) software for electronic, medical,
mechanical, and defense manufacturers, today announces the availability
of a new study from Aberdeen Group, "The Configuration Management
Benchmark Report: Formalizing and Extending CM to Drive Quality." This
new report highlights the fact that best-in-class manufacturers using
technology, such as Omnify Software, to centralize their product data
and automate their CM processes are twice as likely to meet their
product quality targets, 125% more likely to meet their product launch
dates, and almost three times more likely to achieve their product
lifecycle cost targets.
The report identifies that manufacturers are challenged with ongoing engineering changes and keeping Bill of Materials (BOMs) accurate and synchronized across design and manufacturing. Issues in Configuration Management can have a negative impact on manufacturers by delaying product launches, hindering product quality and increasing overall product development costs.
Leading manufacturers are expanding CM beyond BOMs to upstream and
downstream stages in the product lifecycle and to more product-related
information such as product documentation, electronic design, and
specifications. PLM solutions like Omnify support this by providing a
single environment to track and manage component data, BOMs, product
documentation, engineering changes and revisions, as well as compliance
data. Leveraging this technology helps manufacturers to streamline
communication of product data across the enterprise and eliminate
inaccuracies due to manual change processes, separate silos of product
information, and disparate design and manufacturing teams. "The study findings confirm what we are seeing in the marketplace," said Chuck Cimalore, CTO for Omnify Software. "Manufacturers are acutely aware that establishing Configuration Management policies is a critical part of meeting product development goals. By providing an environment for structured change management and centralized product data, our technology facilitates CM practices for customers who continue to report reduced development time and costs as a result of Omnify." The report, entitled "The Configuration Management Benchmark Report: Formalizing and Extending CM to Drive Quality," is available for download here.
