Opsware Application Release Management Solution is First to Automate Application Lifecycle From End

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Opsware Inc. (NASDAQ:OPSW), the leading provider of Data Center Automation software, today announced the industrys first ITIL-compliant application release management solution that integrates both change and process automation. Based on the integration of Opswares award-winning Server Automation System and iConcludes process automation software, the system combines end-to-end process automation and change management to deliver a comprehensive promote to production solution, with all the necessary control, staging and deployment capabilities for even the most demanding enterprise environments.

One of the biggest issues facing developers, quality assurance (QA) and production specialists is the disjointed process of building and deploying applications in large distributed environments. There are two underlying challenges. First, development, testing, staging and production environments tend to get out of synch, resulting in things like different configurations or patch levels. Applications that once worked in development may now fail to work in production. Second, rollout of these complex applications requires careful coordination across different groups in IT and across distributed systems in a very specific order. Conventionally, this type of coordination is done through emails, conference calls and run books, which document processes but do nothing to actually automate the steps involved. Even ticketing systems and process automation point tools fall short, because though they coordinate communication, they do not actually compare environments and execute necessary changes.

By integrating process automation and change automation into one lifecycle management solution, Opsware helps development teams overcome the burden of manually managing the application release process. Opswares integrated approach can deliver dramatically faster times to market for mission-critical applications, significantly lower release management costs, and lead to a much higher success rate for each new rollout.

The Opsware System provides a visually intuitive drag and drop graphical user interface to build process maps that orchestrate the interaction between different tasks, different users, and different systems. Opsware integrates this process automation with industry-leading change automation to deliver the industrys first end-to-end application release solution capable of managing the entire lifecycle of a business application.

From development and QA to staging and production, Opsware manages each phase of the application release process. The Opsware System helps ensure the synchronization of the development, testing, staging and production environments; it automates complex, multi-step deployments across tens or hundreds of devices in the correct order; it integrates with source control systems; and it updates and enforces access control at every stage of the process.

By integrating process and change automation, Opsware is bringing order to the complex and chaotic challenge of managing the lifecycle of enterprise applications, said Tim Howes, CTO at Opsware Inc. Opswares solution for application release management eliminates the guesswork, bottlenecks and confusion from the equation, enabling a tightly controlled promote-to-production process that conforms to ITIL standards and ensures consistency, efficiency, predictability, and quality.
