OutSystems Boosts IT Agility in Biotech Company

XDx Deploys OutSystems Agile Platform for Fast Delivery of Business Solutions

San Ramon, Calif.–OutSystems, provider of the industry-leading Agile Platform for rapid delivery and management of web business applications that are built for continuous change, today announced that XDx, Inc., a molecular diagnostics company based in California, has selected the OutSystems Agile Platform to deliver new core applications to their business users.

Because XDx was looking for continuous alignment between business and information systems, it opted for an agile approach to its application development and management processes.  The first project—an application for Analysis Request Management that automates tracking clinical trial samples and pathology requests—was delivered in five weeks with the OutSystems Agile Platform.

“We operate in a fast-paced environment, where business change must be supported by a flexible and highly responsive software department,” said Stefan Meier, Associate Director of Software Development, XDx . “Adopting the OutSystems Agile Platform and Methodology resulted in the fastest application development project ever for this company.”

By the project kick-off, everyone in XDx’s software team working on the project was trained and certified on the OutSystems Agile Platform. XDx’s team started by using the self-training online resources provided by OutSystems. The OutSystems Express Edition, a free application management and development solution, simplified the evaluation and training stages, allowing for the entire project team to quickly master the OutSystems technology.

“XDx is one of a growing number of fast paced, highly innovative OutSystems customers in the Life Sciences market including Angelini Farmaceutica, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Hyperion Therapeutics, Hovione, Tercica Inc. and other US and European companies,” said Mike Jones, Vice President of Worldwide Marketing for OutSystems.  “Our ability to help these customers rapidly deliver new web-based business applications built for continuous business alignment is driving rapid uptake of the OutSystems Agile Platform and Method in this market.”

XDx will be using the OutSystems Agile Platform to deliver and manage a number of other business applications, whether by customizing available OutSystems solutions for the Life Sciences market, or by creating new ones from scratch.

About XDx
XDx’s mission is to improve patient care by developing molecular diagnostics that translate an individual’s immune status into clinically actionable information. XDx is a molecular diagnostics company that utilizes state-of-the-art genomic technology and sophisticated bioinformatics analyses to understand and measure the immune processes that underlie specific immune-mediated conditions. Building on the discoveries made during the development of AlloMap® molecular expression testing for heart transplant patients, which included the identification of many genes and pathways involved in tissue rejection, XDx is developing a product for use by physicians to better manage lung transplant patients. Beyond the use of AlloMap testing in assessing immune response in solid organ transplantation, XDx scientists are applying similar approaches to potentially create new molecular diagnostic tests for the improved clinical management of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE or lupus), to help diagnose and predict clinical flares common in a variety of these diseases.
