To explore the role of tools as a change-enabler in adopting Agile,
Ryan will introduce an organizational change model from waterfall to
Agile. Using this model, he will show how changes in the
“dev-build-test-fix” cycle along with project/program visibility,
tracking and signaling tools can help lead the change effort,
especially in medium to large teams. He will detail the benefits of an
approach that uses adjustments in tooling to help lead the change
effort. Finally, Ryan will overview how a new breed of Agile life cycle
management tools combined with coaching and training services can
accelerate this approach. This 60-minute talk is
targeted at team, project, process, program and product managers of
medium to large-scale software development organizations who are making
the move to Agile.

About the Presenters:
Ryan Martens
Ryan Martens is an expert in helping organizations transition from traditional development processes to more Agile techniques. Before founding Rally - his fourth software start-up - Ryan directed the corporate adoption of Internet technologies within Qwest Communications, and then moved on to co-found Avitek, a Boulder-based custom software development firm that culminated in an acquisition by BEA Systems in 1999. Ryan received his Masters in Business Administration and his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is a board member of the Agile Alliance, the Entrepreneur’s Foundation of Colorado and Colorado Conservation Trust.
Torsten Weirich
Torsten brings over 13 years of commercial software product development experience to Acorn. He joined Acorn from BMC Software, where he was the Product Development Manager and architect for BMC's PATROL for Diagnostic Management suite. Other roles at BMC included serving as a member of an elite group that created new products incorporating advanced technologies. These advanced technologies included automated network configuration management, statistical analysis and data mining. Torsten was also a lead developer for BMC's PATROL DB database management products. Prior to BMC, he managed graphical database tools development at UniSQL. Torsten also has experience with compiler technology (at Ryan McFarland) and a reverse-engineering CASE tool while at Ten X Technology.
Patrick Egan
Patrick Egan is the founder of CM Crossroads and Editor-in-Chief for the Configuration Management Journal. With over 20 years experience in the software industry in both development and product management, he brings an understanding of the needs of both the industry as well as the users of configuration management tools. Prior to CM Crossroads, Mr. Egan held technical and executive management positions with fortune 500 organizations and software vendors such as Allstate Insurance, the LEGENT Corporation, SERENA Software, New Dimensions, PLATINUM Technology, Catalyst Systems and Computer Associates. Mr. Egan received his Bachelors of Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Loyola University of Chicago.
