New modernization suite with over 100 enhancements launched to help
businesses get the most value from their existing assets
NEWBURY, England,
and SAN DIEGO, USA, September 26, 2007 — Micro Focus (LSE.MCRO.L), the
leading provider of enterprise application management and modernization
solutions, today unveils the latest in its application modernization
solutions with the launch of the Acucorp extend8 Interoperability
Suite of products. extend8 key enhancements include a new product
in AcuXUI™, a Java display engine for the company’s graphical technology, and
enhancements to the recently released AcuXDBC™, a database management system for
the Vision file system interface. With new ports to the Windows x64 platform,
and over 100 enhancements in the development and deployment products,
extend8 will increase programmer productivity, provide superior
performance, and extend data access solutions. The launch signals the first
Acucorp product announcement since Micro Focus acquired the company in May 2007,
and underlines Micro Focus’ commitment to Acucorp customers.
extend8 allows businesses to reinvigorate systems, while
maintaining the value and information stored within them, by providing powerful
graphical technology that is fully enabled in distributed computing environments
with a mature thin client technology, seamless access to database technologies
and feature-rich interoperability. Enhancements are engineered for ease of use
and full portability, to provide the greatest possible return on investment and
ensure that the existing application continues to have the ability to modernize
in an evolutionary manner. Businesses are looking for IT systems to provide more
value with often reduced investment. With extend8, customers are
able to exploit previously untapped resources currently residing in their IT
systems, while building new platforms that can run on any environment. This
minimizes the need to overhaul existing IT infrastructures and retrain
staff.
Stuart McGill, Chief Technology Officer, Micro Focus, said:
“extend8 enables CIOs and IT directors to unlock more value from
their respective organization’s IT systems. All too often, we hear of the need
to replace systems that have been in place for a number of years.
extend8 allows businesses to avoid the huge cost and risk of such
projects by providing a straight-forward modernization solution, easily
adaptable to a variety of platforms. This is an important development in the
Micro Focus product portfolio and clearly demonstrates our commitment to support
our Acucorp customers going forward.”
One of the principle enhancements
of extend8 is the introduction of AcuXUI™, which allows users of
ACUCOBOL-GT® graphical technology to use Java as their display engine,
providing a more modern look and feel to their interface, and allowing them to
create graphical user interfaces for their applications that are portable to any
platform running a Java Runtime Environment. Users can deploy their graphical
applications to UNIX, Linux, Macintosh, or Web Browser environments, with no
changes to their code.
“We are long-time users of Acucorp’s graphical
technology, their development tools, and their data access tools – all of which
continue to get steadily better. With each major release, we’ve seen our return
on investment grow, as Acucorp has engineered solutions that have allowed us to
provide increasingly powerful solutions to our customer base and expand our
market,” said Donald R. Frey, President, Donald R. Frey & Company,
Inc.
