Rally Brings the Benefits of ALM to the Developer's Desktop

New products and integrations create a seamless environment for developers and testers using Agile software development

BOULDER, Colo., - Rally Software Development Corp.®, the #1 partner for Agile success through its family of products, coaching and community support, and Tasktop Technologies, Inc., the creator and leader of the Eclipse™ Mylyn open source project, has announced two new products and integrations that extend the benefits of Agile lifecycle management to the developer's desktop.

"These new products are deeply integrated with commonly used development applications, allowing developers to easily reap the benefits of Agile practices," said Zach Nies, VP of product development for Rally. "We can now extend the context of Rally user stories, tasks and defects to the actual code that developers are editing and even the emails that they are using to collaborate within the team."

The task-focused interaction technology built through the Mylyn open source project has dramatically improved the way developers work. Current IDEs overload developers with tens of thousands of source code artifacts. As a result, developers often spend more time searching, scrolling, and navigating than actually programming. Mylyn enhances developer productivity by seamlessly integrating tasks into Eclipse and automatically managing the context of those tasks as developers work.

New products and integrations announced by Rally and Tasktop include:

* Using Rally as a central collaboration hub, the Rally Connector for Eclipse enables developers and testers to seamlessly view and update user stories, tasks, and defects in Rally without leaving their Eclipse IDE. Developers can see artifacts in the context of their source code from within the Eclipse IDE, and share that context with other Rally users.

* The new Eclipse Mylyn-based Task-Focused Desktop (Tasktop) product enables developers and testers to easily collaborate about code. The Tasktop associates Rally user stories, tasks and defects to activities such as email, web browsing, and document editing. Integration between the Tasktop and Rally support a seamless offline experience as well as integration with productivity applications ranging from Microsoft Outlook to Google Calendar.

"Since its June 2007 bundling with Eclipse, Mylyn has transformed the productivity of countless developers, making it much easier for them to collaborate and work on large systems," said Mik Kersten, president and CTO of Tasktop Technologies. "As of today, developers using Rally's leading Agile project management tools will no longer have to leave their IDE when managing the user stories and tasks that make up their workday. With the additional combination of Rally with the Tasktop tool, we're also very excited to bring the productivity benefits of Mylyn to non-programmers engaged in the Agile development process."
