 The architecture was designed from the ground up to be highly scalable and flexible. DBVS interfaces to existing systems to provide a cohesive, enterprise-wide experience, allowing companies to leverage previous investments. Each database that should be controlled is configured in DBVS to point to a SCM system (i.e. MKS Source, IBM Rational ClearCase) for the storage of its metadata and optionally, a task management system (i.e. MKS Integrity, IBM Rational ClearQuest) for linking database changes to change management.
Since these integrations are configured per database, each controlled database versioned by DBVS can be associated with a different SCM system or a different task management system if required. This provides maximum flexibility over the disparate systems that often make up an enterprise.

Database Version Control:
DBVS controls your valuable database assets just like software configuration management products control your source code. You can optionally enforce strict locking conditions so developers must check out a database object before they are granted access to modify it, giving you maximum control. Otherwise, developers can simply commit changes to database objects periodically as they evolve, providing control with very little impact on developer productivity. The next time you ask who changed the database or what was changed, or even when or why, you won’t be stuck without answers.
Release Management:
How much does it cost you to deploy changes to a database? Cut those costs to zero with DBVS’s automatic deployment functionality. Simply select the changes you wish to deploy and DBVS computes the SQL code required to implement those changes in the target database. That SQL code is executed in a single transaction, so if anything fails for any reason, the entire transaction is rolled back automatically.
Synchronization:
Do you maintain several database environments for a single project? Do you need to synchronize those databases with production or a specific release periodically? Do you have a cost-effective means of rolling back a database release without resorting to a full restore from backup? The synchronization functionality of DBVS solves all of these problems and more by allowing you to baseline your databases and synchronize any database to an existing baseline.
IDE Integration:
